August 2004 - Visa Wait, Summer Break

News Updates Index

Dear Friends,

The response to our plea for funding and sponsorship for Newton's studies has been very encouraging. A number of folk have offered to help out with the payment. His sponsorship letter hasn't come through as yet, since there was a misunderstanding in the communications. It would be good if the letter could come by Friday (August 13th), so that Newton can go for his interview at the UK High Commission. To start his studies on time Newton needs to receive his Visa and leave Sri Lanka by August 26-27, ie. in two weeks! Please pray for him and his family. This week he has been in Trincomalee, waiting for the letter to come, rather than spending this precious time with his family in Colombo.

Please pray too, for Alexander. He arrived on Friday, 6th August, after a delay of 24 hours in various airports en route. Pray for his settling in, adapting to the new surroundings, culture, food, climate etc. as well as perseverance and encouragement in language learning. He has quite a task ahead of him, if he is going to teach in Tamil! He has started language lessons, 2 hours daily, with Ramesh, which will continue through to Christmas. Pray good relationships to develop with all the folk here.

The students left for their holidays last Saturday, 7th August and will return for the new term on September 5th. The college staff will leave this Friday, 13th, for their break and return on 23rd. Please pray that everyone would have a refreshing rest.

The Mini Bible School in Hatton will run from 24-28th August. Alexander will be teaching the book of Acts, supplemented by Jeyaseelan speaking on Accountability and the Christian Family, and Sivakumar, speaking on Discipleship. Pray tht all the practical arrangements would work out smoothly and that it would be an encouraging and precious time of fellowship and learning for participants and workers alike.

Yours in Christ,

Jaqui
