ADMISSIONS POLICY
Men and women of God are qualified for ministry by faith, moral character, experience as well as academic achievement with this in mind, BTC takes into consideration not just the applicant's academic record but also their basic Bible knowledge, Christian experience, spiritual growth, and church involvement. Each applicant should be spending a minimum of five hours per week in Christian ministry.
PROGRAMMES OF STUDY OFFERED:
All programmes are offered in English, Sinhala and Tamil mediums.
1). BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY (B.TH.)
This is a three year programmes of study designed to train people for pastoral and teaching ministries and similar positions of leadership in the Church.
Prerequisites for enrolment are :
- Three passed in the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) or its equivalent.
- The applicant must have reached 20 years of age.
- In the absence of the academic qualification an applicant above 30 years may obtain a provisional registration as a mature student. Such registration will be confirmed upon the successful completion of six courses.
ACADEMIC CRITERIA FOR GRADUATION
To graduate a student must have gained 135 credits, comprised of 111 from core courses, 19 from elective courses and 5 from a research paper. The spiritual progress and the ministry involvement of the student will also be taken into account.
2). DIPLOMA IN THEOLOGY (DIP.TH)
A two year programme designed to equip lay and full-time Christian workers for deeper biblical insight and skills for ministry.
Prerequisites for enrolment are :
- Six passes in the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) or its equivalent. The applicant must have reached 18 years of age.
- In the absence of the academic qualification an applicant above 25 years may obtain a provisional registration as a mature student. Such registration will be confirmed upon the successful completion of six courses.
ACADEMIC CRITERIA FOR GRADUATION
A student must have gained 90 credits, comprised of 76 from core courses and 14 form elective courses, in order to graduate. The student's spiritual progress and ministry involvement will also be taken into account.
3). BALDAEUS CERTIFICATE
A one year full-time or longer part time programme designed for working people who find full time study impractical.
BTC also offers single courses, many in the evenings and weekend for the benefit of the Christian public, covering a wide range of topics.
